Chinua Achebe, a Nigerian novelist, displayed to the world a more genuine African personality, rather than the primitive and oversimplified condition told with a condescending tone, hypocritical attitude and bigotry adopted by European literature in previous publications such as "The White Man's Burden" and "Hearts of Darkness" to justify violence, imperialism, colonialism, plundering and cruelty against other civilizations around the world.

So with his novel "Things Fall Apart", Chinua Achebe intended to reply previous pejorative portrayals of Africa made by Europeans and Western colonists, introducing African culture as a dynamic society from an African perspective, told from the African experience, giving a voice to the African people towards the rest of the world and dispute the bigoted stereotype widespread by white supremacists; and also to lift the dignity and morale of African people worldwide.

I can't give you 200 words but I can give you a basic outline of what his intent was.

The big idea that Chinua Achebe wanted to portray is that societies different from our own have just as much complexity. Achebe wanted to educate a western audience who mainly believed that life in Africa in the time period of the novel was filled with savagery and primitiveness. This is why he highlights the positive parts of igbo society and the not so positive lets leave the twins to die in the forest parts.
