what's the meaning of "Had it not been for America, there had been no such thing as freedom left throughout the whole universe."

    I think the meaning of this is that it's kind of comparing with Independence Day? Not everyone had hope of America getting its freedom and independence but when they won the war, everyone's low expectations got higher and encouraged others in the world to stand up for their freedom.
