Concrete words are nouns that you can apply at least one of your five senses to. It's somewhat tangible. Abstract nouns, on the other hand, describe thoughts and feelings such as love. For example, you cannot touch, see, taste, hear, or smell love. Love does not have a specific taste or sound. It's a concept, an idea. That is the opposite of a concrete word.

Examples of concrete words would be dogs, cats, tables, chairs, asphalt, the sidewalk, your best friend, your parents, an apple, etc., etc. You can apply all five of your senses to these objects if you really wanted to. That is what makes it concrete.
