How is the rivalry between Odessa and Permian representative of the racial divisions within the greater Odessa community?

The rivalry between Odessa and Premian is representative of the racial divisions within the greater Odessa community because when, in the 60's, Permian High was formed, on the east side of the town, it drew families away from Odessa High.

Odessa, which was until that moment the football powerhouse in the region, became a largely Latino district with a mediocre football team.

Permian was accused by members of the Odessa High of redrawing football boundaries to ensure that, if that black students were going to come to Permian, they would be black students capable of improving the football team.

The conflict was basically founded on ethnic, racial issues. Black and Latino population were denigrated and thought not to be good enough for big time Texas football.
