    When sergeant Morris warned Mr. white about the paw and also when he said the third was for death, that means that the paw is dangerous and every wish leads to consequences

    Explanation:

    Firstly, in the opening of the story, Mr. White says, "Hark at the wind." By drawing attention to the wind outside, he foreshadows the wind which blows through the house at the end of the story after Mrs. White has wished for the return of her son.
