The correct answer is: massacred by the millions.

The Armenian Genocide took place in the Ottoman Empire from spring 1915 tthrough autumn 1916 under the Young Turk government. It was a campaign of deportation and mass killing against the Armenians living there. Approximately 1.5 milion Armenians lived there before the genocide and at least 664,000 to 1.2 million were killed. The main objective of the government was to destroy the Armenian people.

The United Nations define genocide as "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; [and] forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

By the mere definition we can realize that the answer is related to the massacre of a lot of people.
