For this reading journal assignment, you will be analyzing the irony used in each of the stories you have read. Recognizing irony is a sophisticated skill, and being able to explain it shows your deep understanding of this concept.

Describe the use of irony in "Charles," "The Gift of the Magi," and "The Necklace." What is ironic in each story? How is each use of irony different? Use specific examples from each story to support your answer.

Remember, irony is when the outcome of a situation is the opposite of what one would expect.
