As a young man, he was adventurous and his aspiration was influenced by the believe that he was going to achieved what no one has done.

    Explanation:

When their ship got stucked in the middle of ice and while they wait for the ice to thaw, he saw Victor, whom he rescued. The stories from Victor before he died influenced his aspiration to the pursuit of country of eternal lights.

Victor's story was the catalyst for his destiny, but most often he finds himself in the middle - while he extols Victor as courageous, he also finds himself thinking of the risk associated with his certain-death adventure.
