Mr. Jones valued Dexter but Dexter was fascinated towards Judy.

    Explanation:

Dexter's real reason to quit his job is Judy. He was attracted by her beauty and was chasing her. But Dexter was excellent in his job.

Dexter was paid well and he was respected and valued. So Mr. Jones begged him not to quit his job. Mr. Jones knew Dexter was intelligent and a man of good character.

He tells Mr. Jone that he has become too old to be a caddy but that wasn't an excuse.
