    Explanation: The novel "The Red Badge of Courage written by Stephen Crane and published in 1895 follows the young protagonist known as Henry Fleming during the American Civil War where he encounters the hard truths about the experience of war. Initially, he was cowardly as he runs from his first battle but afterwards turned into a fierce courageous soldier. Although he lied of being shot, he was never shot and so he did not die in the book though he abandoned a badly wounded tattered soldier whom we were led to believe died of his wounds.
