What is Steve's perspective about the group approaching Les Goodman's house?

Steve says, "Wait a minute ... wait a minute! Let's not be a mob!" Steve notices that everyone in the neighborhood is becoming a crazy mob. They are becoming quick to blame others for things that are difficult to explain. Steve is not sure that the alien theory is actually correct and doesn't want to start accusing his neighbors of being aliens or monsters. Steve is a little afraid of what the neighborhood is turning into and the mob mentality.
