The opening statement begins with Oedipus being taken to the city of Thebes ravaged by crisis.

    Explanation:

Oedipus is taken to the city of Thebes which is full of hunger, disease and death and is asked by the king to resolve the issue. Oedipus accepts the challenge and continues to work for the people of Thebes. Oedipus tells the people that he had already sent his brother-in-law, Creon to solve the problem. Creon comes with a message saying that the problem would end only with the death of Laius, the former king. The opening statement reveals that the story is going to be a tragedy and creates a sense of suspense. The beginning part shows the intelligence and responsibility of Oedipus but in the end, his condition becomes pathetic.
