That Idek was extremely agressive and as violent as lightening. Idek could do to a human body what lightening could do to a tree. The figure of speech is simile. The author has written " ... like / as lightening ... " A simile is generally introduced with 'like or as'. The writer is describing the hatred Idek felt towards the Jews.

The literary device used is the metaphor. It was used in the comparison between Idek and light. This comparison was made to show that Idek is as strong as the lightning of a ray that has the ability to split a tree in half.

    Explanation:

The metaphor is a literary device that has the ability to make a subjective comparison between two factors that are not related, but the metaphor allows the meaning of one to be seen in the other.

An example of this is the comparison between Idek and the light, shown in the text above. The light that the text refers to is the light of a ray that has the ability to cut a tree in half.

When the metaphor is placed in the text to compare these two factors, the author is saying that Idek was as strong, violent and threatening as lightning is for a tree.
