    The bandwagon effect is a psychological phenomenon. It states that people do something primarily because other people are doing it, regardless of their own beliefs or needs. It is a form of manipulation to influence people to join with a trend in politics or consumer behavior. A person takes an interest in a gadget or an activity just to fit in in the society and to be considered normal.

    In the statement about the communication tool, the bandwagon is the fallacy that almost everyone in America owns a phone and uses it as a means of communication. Some people may feel pressured to buy a phone even if they don't need one because they feel like losers if they don't have one. They want to belong and to fit in, and in order to do so they feel they need a phone.
