Why did Chaucer stop composing The Canterbury

Tales before he completed all 120 of them?

they were unpopular at the time

    I think it's because he died. One scholar predicted that it would've taken him 200 years to finish at the rate he was going. (I know for sure the second and third options are wrong because he used to read them out at the royal court to entertain people.)
