The term social stratification is used, in the field of sociology, for the classification that involves individuals in groups according to their socioeconomic conditions. When a person or a social group takes advantage and has privileges in detriment of others, it is called social stratification. It is a historical feature of society and can be observed from the beginning of civilizations. It does not only involve economic criteria, but also takes cultural beliefs and practices into account. It is important to remember that in the capitalist mode of production people can change their position in the pyramid because of social mobility. Throughout history, there have already been several types of social stratification. Currently, there are basically three types: caste system, slavery and capitalism. Said that, social stratification is the very core of human society and is part of human interaction. Stratification it-self means that a certain group (or individuals) will have some advantages over other group or people and it is not the ideal since one group will benefit to the detriment of another, either through work, financial gain or facilities. Hence, one group, as long as the stratification goes on, will suffer with the unequal distribution of resources, be they wealth, status, social prestige or power. So, Stratification is not good and must be kept as controlled as possible in any healthy society since is almost impossible to prevent it from happening
