"The Importance of Being Ernest" was written by Oscar Wilde.

Cecily Cardew appears in the play as an eighteen-year-old girl who has left in charge of the main character, Jack Worthing.

An important detail to mention is that Jack has created an imaginary self called Ernest. Cecily is obsessed with this name so much that she creates a fantasized romance with him. Ernest, which appears as Jack's brother, and wickedness are the things that fascinated Cecily the most.

Cecily was obliged to study German, an activity that she didn't like, because she thought that it made her less pretty and also because she was afraid of doing it.
