    Wiesel asks and answer this question in his speech "Hope, Despair, and Memory". After suffering the horrors of the Holocaust, Wiesel found the strength to tell his story and encourage others to do the same. His reason for telling what had happened was simple: to ensure that it never happens again. He says in many of his books, speeches, and interviews that keeping silent would allow these atrocities to repeat themselves. However, even though he has told his survivor story and speaks out against indifference and persecution, there is still genocide and war happening today.
