    In the book, The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant, girl Sheila doesn't care about the feelings that the narrator as towards her. She spends most of her time dancing with another boy, named Eric.

    Explanation:

    Even in the beginning, Sheila wasn't interested in the narrator, she was obsessed with Eric, so the dance was a perfect opportunity for her to accomplish her goal and get Eric interested in her.
