Sydney Carton's character changes as the story continues.

    Explanation:

Sydney Carton is proven to be the most dynamic character in 'A Tale of Two Cities'. Initially he is shown lazy and an alcoholic lawyer who has no purpose in his life. He is not interested in his own life.

Eventually, Carton reaches a stage in his life where he admits his feelings to Lucie, before she marries Darnay. Even though he still thinks himself as worthless.

So, towards the end, the sacrifice Carton does in his life become of great worth. He is also seen as Christ like figure.
