Why is this sentence not a thesis statement? Why is elementary school success an indicator of graduation rates?

    It is not a thesis statement because it does not show your opinion on the research you would be conducting. In a research paper you would either try to confirm that they are not an indicator, or that they are an indicator. You wouldn't write a question such as this.
