What does discourage means

Discourage means to try prevent something or prevent someone from doing something by acting negatively about it.

ex. She discouraged me from joining the talent show by constantly talking about how bad I was at singing.

it means to persuade somebody from doing something.

e. g. my teacher discouraged me from taking an art course because of my broken hand.
