How do the following lines affect the mood of "The Courage That My Mother Had"? "That courage like a rock, which she / Has no more need of, and I have."

    Answer: They give the poem its sense of sadness and longing.

    The line That courage like a rock, which she has no more need of and I have from the poem "The Courage That My Mother Had" displays the longing of the child to her mother and the sadness envelopes him/her for she can never have the courage that her/his mother has.
