    the reason why the narrator throw the umbrella down the sewer after the car accident is : c. the umbrella symbolized the rejection of her mother The narrator feel ashamed about her working mother who cannot afford her the standard of living like she's seen in her friends. in the end, she feel ashamed of this and the umbrella remind her of her shameful thought about her mother
