Why does a coyote decide to take care of Bill and if you need the story's name it is Pecos Bill

The coyote is a mother coyote and she does not think of Bill as food. She sees Bill as just another child like her own, hungry and frightened and needs to be fed and taken care of. She took him home with her and raised him as her own.
