    The excerpt being referred above is from "Mother Tongue" which was written by Amy Tan. In the excerpt, Tan refers to others how the English language is being spoken in which she described it as "broken". How Tan builds the central idea in this story is that she provides an example of experience that shows that the measurement of language ability is not always related with achievement tests to stress the idea.
