Why might a very good raconteur make a poor auctioneer?

A good raconteur is very good at telling stories and captivating audiences but this is not a good quality in an auctioneer. An auctioneer usually needs to be able to elicit bids and move an auction along at a quick pace, the opposite of standing in front of a crowd and telling stories.
