Cause is what happened to make up the effect, and effect is basically what happened after the cause. Example: Cause: My brother broke a vase. Effect: We both got in trouble.

Cause is anything that makes an event happen. You can ask questions like "why did it happen?" where you can find out how it was made possible.
Effect can not come into existence without a possible cause. It's always "been" and "would be." Effect is the last thing to be noticed, but comes last, before caused.
Effect is the outcome of caused.
