This is important, because the poem addresses the idea that many species of animals, when away from humans and development, thrive and live good lives entirely on their own. Birds, however, feel fear when they come to the feeder (when they entrust their livelihood to humans), because they must interact with the "human world", unlike the other animals in the poem.
