    The legislation that was enacted in the south after the civil war that promoted 'separate but equal' facilities for different races is known as Jim Crow laws. Although at the time this legislation was put forward as laws that would further the cause of equality for black and white people in America, it only served to act as an incredibly damaging act of segregation.
