Sometimes it can be beneficial to observe behaviors as they naturally happen instead of in a lab. Psychologists can then have a better understanding of how and why people act the way they do. Looking at behavior that happens in its natural setting is called naturalistic observation. During naturalistic observation, the researcher is not talking to or interrupting the person being observed. They just record behaviors that they see their subject naturally do in a specific environment.
