1. Indeed the saints no excellence, as they are in and of themselves. 2. In them, that is, in their flesh, dwells no good thing. 3. They are in themselves poor, guilty, vile creatures, and see themselves to be so. 4. But they have an excellency and glory in them, because they have Christ dwelling in them. 5. The excellency that is in them, though it be but as a spark, yet it is something ten thousand times more excellent than any ruby, or most precious pearl that ever was found on the earth; and that because it is something divine, something of God.
