The word commit comes from two Latin words which are "com-" with means with and "mittere" which means to put. "Com-" is its prefix. When joined, it becomes the word "committere" which means to join. Then this has transformed into the word "commit" which still possess the same meaning. "Commit" is now a late Middle English word.
