How do the narrator's statements about his background and his description of his surroundings create suspense

    The narrator is walking home alone and because of the background we've been given, we understand that it is dangerous for him to do so. "Greasers can't walk home alone too much", creates suspense and foreshadows the subsequent attack on Ponyboy by the Socs.
