Gideon's last words indicate that although he and Teddy have a good relationship, Gideon is still aware of the system put in place by society. That is, Gideon is a black servant and Teddy is the son of a white farmer, and will have is own farm one day with black servants, like Gideon. Although Gideon and Teddy are friends now and seem to be on the same level, the cycle will continue.
