Robert Kennedy went ahead with the rally because he believed someone should tell the black and minority citizens of Indianapolis the news of King's death rather than just hear it on the news. He wanted to tell them again that King would not want them to react in hate, violence but to react with compassion and justice. the nation wanted healing, not more bloodshed.
