He gives the message that his father different from other young men who were desperate to search for a vison preferred to find a spirit guide for his life. So it means that he preferred finding the guidance for his spirit more than a glorious life. This is a philosopical approach, questioning life and how to fulfill your spirit. It could be through faith or meditation. But most of the people prefer enjoying life rather than questioning. Even in his time, young people chose the easiest way and his dad made the difference.
