This passage explains a mythical reason for two things. The first is how the cows appeared on their lands. The myth is that they were shot up from the volcanoes into the sky, but then Enkai was able to get them safely to earth where the people learned to take care of them. The second explains why fig trees exist. They are used in this myth as the way the cows were returned to earth.
