    D. Pleasantly.

When Mrs. Hutchinson shows up late, she arrives at the back of the crowd and stands next to Mrs. Delacroix. She tells her she forgot what day it was, and they both softly laughed. When she finally reaches the front of the crowd where her husband is, Mr. Summers cheerfully says, "Thought we were going to have to get on without you, Tessie." Thus, even though she was late, she was greeted pleasantly and cheerfully.
