Is the following sentence compound, complex, compound complex or simple: After we left, Sally ordered ice cream and Sarah bought an ice cream sandwich

    It is complex because "After we left" is a dependent clause and the rest is an independent clause. It is not compound because there is no conjunction dividing the two (and, or, but, etc.)
