    The correct answer should be B. Elderly often were unable to save enough money to retire and relied on their children to pay their bills.

    That is because Gregor is young and has to work to pay of his father's debt, and he has a job that he hates, so all of the other possible answers go against what's happening in the story so it has to be B then because it fits.
