In contrast to other literary genres, drama is literature written for performance, for instance by actors on a stage or in a film.

Almost every text meant to be performed rather than read can be considered drama.

When written down, drama consists of dialogues and monologues, with periodic stage directions that explain how actors should behave, look, speak and move.
