Observing how terrain affects the movement of a community (e. g., living in a sparse desert encourages inhabitants to be nomads, as opposed to living in a fertile valley which encourages farming.) Regions - the change in the terrain makes people define their environment. For example, volcanic eruptions can make people wary of the damage it can cause, but at the same time it makes people adapt to the change in land forms brought about by the eruption - for example, more fertile soil, changes in the flow of waterways, change in the availability of animal life for hunting or fishing.
