    Existing sanctions imposed by the United States Government as well as continued political unrest are the main barriers to foreign investment to develop Sudan's oil reserves.

    According to the US sanctions, companies are banned from doing business, including dealings in activities relating to oil and petrochemicals, in Sudan.
