    Refugee Act of 1980 (Public Law 96-212) was a law passed by the federal government to protect refugees in the United States.

    The law was created to provide refugees with a permanent and systematic procedure for admission into the US o refuges of special humanitarian concern to the United States., and to provide effective resettlement and absorption of these refugees. The law created an agency named the Federal Refugee Resettlement Program to promote the welfare of the refugees.
