At the autumnal equinox.

At the equinox., duration of day and night are equal all over the globe. It happens because sun is just over the equator, going towards the south.

After 6 months of night, day starts breaking in southern hemisphere. For next 6 months there is likely to be day in the south pole.

The sun will be seen near the horizon moving on a circular path all through the day parallel to the horizon without setting.
