Nazca plate is the named after the Nazca region in the southern Peru is a tectonic plate that is located to the east f the pacific ocean. It is a region of the subduction of the Peru chile trench and is largely responsible for the formation of the Andes mountains. The Nazca plate has several hotspots and these are created by the volcanic islands, as well as the running ea mount chains of South America, an relative to the adjoining plate the Nazca plate is a young plate margin just about 23 mn years old. The South American plate and the Nazca plate are two plates that interact with each other as they share a boundary. The South American plate is a continental plate, while the Nazca plate is an oceanic plate.

There are several things that have occurred and are still going on because of the interaction between these two plates:

A subduction zone has been formed, thus an oceanic trench with it, where the Nazca plate subducts below the South American plate. An orogeny occurred, which resulted in the formation of the Andean mountain range in the along the western coastline of South America. Lots of volcanoes have formed in close proximity to the boundary, resulting in the formation of volcanic mountains and volcanic islands. Earthquakes have been a common occurrence in the area, often having devastating effects.
