How does the movement of tectonic plates contribute to the formation of metamorphic rock?

    Inside the Earth's mantle there are convection currents that produce the movement of tectonic plates. Through the earth's crust the hot magma moves to the surface, which causes cracks between the plates and separates them.

    When the magma reaches the surface it cools and becomes dense, and then sinks back into the mantle.

    When this process happens extremely, metamorphic rocks are formed. That is, the rocks are exposed to extreme pressure or an increase in temperature, and it only occurs if the magma inside the rock is hot enough to rearrange the rock material without melting it.

    As the magma goes out towards the surface of the earth, it melts the rocks that it finds in the way, which heat up, change and form the metamorphic rocks.
