shorter than that emitted by the Sun

    Explanation:

As earth emits the energy in the form of a long-range IR as a black body, thus earth spectral radiation emitted from the surface in the wavelength range of 3 to 40 m. The peak emission near 10m corresponding to a temperature of approximately 289 Kelvin. Due to the fact that earth is cooler than the sun and thus has less energy to give off. Most of the energy that falls on the earth is absorbed by the ocean and the landmass.
