During winter, the Chinook makes the climate warmer than usual. It can raise winter temperature, often from below minus 20 degree Celsius to as high as 20 degrees Celsius.

An example is Calgary in Southern Alberta, Canada. It endures very cold winters and due to its location in the prairie location, there are few natural barriers to the wind.

The chinook can raise the temperature here by 30 degrees Celsius in just a few hours providing welcome relief from the often bitter cold.
